Discover a place where ancient Egypt comes to life amongst the stones of the Eternal City. Here lie the remains of the eastern entrance arch of the Temple of Isis and Serapis, known as the Camigliano Arch, discovered in 1969 within the shops of the corner building at the junction of Via S. Ignazio and Via Piè di Marmo, preserved from the cellars up to the first floor, built of square travertine blocks.

The earliest ancient document referring to this monumental arch is the ‘Arcus ad Isis’, carved into the relief that adorned the mausoleum of the Haterii family on Via Labicana (Via Casilina) in Rome. Quinto Aterio Thychicus was a contractor who, under Domitian, undertook some of the most important works in Rome, including the Colosseum. They were among the leading builders of Imperial Rome under the Flavian dynasty. We shall seek to understand the structure of the temple, the function of its spaces and the profound spiritual significance of the cult of Isis in Imperial Rome.
